DORMONT, Pa. – The Dormont Borough Council has formally adopted “Dormont By Design,” a new comprehensive plan that will serve as the official roadmap for the community’s development, infrastructure, and policy decisions for the next decade.
The unanimous vote to adopt the plan took place at the council’s regular meeting on June 2, 2025, immediately following a final public hearing on the matter.
A comprehensive plan is a foundational document used in municipal planning to establish long-term goals and guide future growth. “Dormont By Design” will now be the framework that the borough’s planning commission and council use to evaluate new development proposals, update zoning ordinances, and prioritize capital projects. The plan is organized around three core pillars: Connection, focusing on transportation and mobility; Community, focusing on public spaces and recreation; and Opportunity, focusing on business and housing.
According to the plan document, key objectives include making the borough’s “Complete Streets” legislation a tangible reality through targeted public realm improvements that optimize the pedestrian experience. Specific goals aim to create safer and more comfortable mobility options for people of all ages and abilities to access daily destinations.

The plan also calls for significant investment in community and recreational facilities. Proposals include enhancing premier attractions like Dormont Park to serve a new generation, with potential additions like a dedicated dog park, a flexible outdoor event space, and creating new native plant gardens and meadows to improve public green spaces.
The “Dormont By Design” document, which was developed over the past year with public and stakeholder input, is available for public review on the borough’s official website, boro.dormont.pa.us.
