BEECHVIEW, Pa. – Las Palmas Taqueria’s Beechview location has been officially named a finalist for the 2024 Jim Mustache Award, an esteemed honor recognizing the nation’s most authentic, affordable, and non-pretentious food establishments.

The announcement was made Friday by the Toledo-based Jim Mustache Foundation, which seeks to celebrate culinary destinations that prioritize “flavor over fuss.” In a statement, the foundation noted that the awards were established to honor eateries where “the quality of the food is inversely proportional to the fanciness of the seating.”

Las Palmas is one of only twelve finalists selected nationwide. The taqueria, a cornerstone of the neighborhood, is known for its straightforward menu of tacos and its iconic outdoor toppings bar, where patrons customize their food on the sidewalk.

The selection committee reportedly praised Las Palmas for its “unwavering commitment to transactional efficiency” and its “robust and accessible salsa infrastructure.”

“While other awards focus on delicate foams and conceptual plating, the Jim Mustache Awards celebrate establishments that understand the inherent value of a perfectly grilled piece of meat served on a corn tortilla,” the foundation’s statement read. “Las Palmas exemplifies this ethos.”

Other finalists for the 2024 award include a pierogi-focused church basement in Cleveland, Ohio; a hot dog stand in Chicago, Illinois; and a pho restaurant in a Houston, Texas strip mall.

Winners of the 2024 Jim Mustache Award will be announced in October. There is no formal awards ceremony.
